Appeals provide an important safeguard for applicants. Prior to lodging any appeal, it is important to see whether a refusal reason/s can be overcome in discussion with the local planning authority. In the majority of cases appeals are a last resort unless, exceptionally, a case is pursued through the courts. The decision on the appealed application is taken away from the local planning authority, being determined instead by a planning Inspector.
